Belinda
Belinda came to CHOOSE Employment in March 2006 with a physical disability. At 25 Belinda had not worked before but liked computers. CHOOSE Employment worked with Belinda to identify possible job matches and Belinda showed that office administration would be suitable.
CHOOSE Employment talked to ACL Bearing Company about creating a job that matched Belinda’s capabilities. Within three months, Belinda started work at ACL Bearing Company with the support of CHOOSE Employment who continue to support Belinda. CHOOSE Employment also arranged workplace modifications, the Workplace Modifications Scheme helps pay for the cost of adjustments in the workplace for people with a disability.
Simone
Big Bickies is all about becoming job ready and learning about work.
Simone started work at our Big Bickies kitchen in 2003 and spent the next two years as an important part of the Big Bickies team. More importantly, we all discovered Simone had a flair for cleaning.
Foot & Playsted asked Simone to come in for a work trial as a cleaner. She is still there, happy, working 20 hours per week and still with a flair for cleaning.
Heidi
Heidi came to our Big Bickies kitchen at the end of 2004.
Heidi displayed issues with authority and memory loss.
Through intensive support and training while employed at Big Bickies and CHOOSE Cafe, Heidi developed skills that enabled CHOOSE Employment to support Heidi in applying for a job packing vegetables.
Heidi got the job and is still employed, with ongoing supported by CHOOSE Employment.
Tim
Tim didn’t know much about computers but he knew he liked what they could do…it fascinated him. CHOOSE Employment enrolled Tim in a computer course for Microsoft Excel with NGT Tasmania.
After completing the course Tim’s love of computers combined with his newfound abilities led him to our Job Club where he confidently applied for jobs.
Tim is now in full time work and using his computer skills.
