Leven Bank Aged Care Facility

Following a request from the Director of Nursing (DON) at the Leven Bank Aged Care Facility in Ulverstone, the Business & Employment Community Action Teamare engaged in work to improve safety within the home.

The residents enjoy observing the birds housed in the home’s aviary located within a central courtyard. However a defunct mini golf ‘putt putt’ course presented an unacceptable number of tripping points to allow safe access. Consequently the DON, Sharon Hall, requested the assistance of our Community Action Team to remove the substantial concrete pads that incorporated the mini golf course.

In conjunction with the Mersey Natural Resource Management Group and Youth & Family Focus, tools, a truck, supervision and people power were organised and coordinated to remove the tripping hazards. The residents can now, thanks to this Work for the Dole effort, freely visit their feathered friends and enjoy the outdoor sunshine in safety.

This story however is not yet complete as the Community Solutions Team, following the impressive courtyard construction at the Mount St Vincent’s facility (refer to our featured activities section) has future development plans for this courtyard area to further enhance the enjoyment for the aged residents of Leven Bank!
