Big Bickies celebrates Fine Foods awards

Big Bickies has new fans. At the recent Royal Hobart Wrest Point Fine Food Awards, we came away with a silver and bronze award in the cakes and sweet pastries category for our Melting Moments biscuits and palate pleasing Pecan Tarts.

To celebrate this fantastic achievement, we recently held a luncheon in the Big Bickies kitchen, where our staff were the special guests! Amongst the awards sashes and certificates, each staff member was presented with their own award certificate in recognition of their hard work and skills.
Big Bickies is a not-for-profit O group business that employs and trains people with disabilities and high support needs to facilitate their successful transition into open employment.
O group chief executive Andrew Billing said the aim of the business is to provide people with the opportunity to be involved with a working team in a professional environment. “We bring people into the Big Bickies kitchen and give them experience in a real working environment,” he said.
Kurt has been working with Big Bickies for seven years. He started as a kitchen hand and has moved into marketing and delivery.
Kurt said he is very grateful for the amount of support and patience given to him by Big Bickies. “I’ve picked up many skills,” he said.
Kitchen worker Chris has similar experiences. “Big Bickies is great,” he said. “We’ve got a good boss and chef in there. I’ve done this for almost six years and I don’t want to leave!”.
